How to handle diet setbacks

Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend. I had a setback this weekend, when I ate some of my son's dessert. I felt bad for about two minutes, and then I let it go and moved on.

I've had thousands of "failures" on my way to living a healthy life. I would swear not to have any more sugar, and then ten minutes later I would have ice cream, and then the guilt for eating would make me eat even more. A very viscous cycle. It has taken me years, but slowly I I have learned to not let the setbacks and failures get to me.

Each time I would eat something unhealthy I would tell myself that it was just a small misstep and it was not too late to continue working towards my goal. This whole process has been tough for me to break, but worth it. Research has shown that people who avoid beating themselves up over diet slip-ups are much more likely to go back to healthy eating at the next meal than those who are hard on themselves. Which means that if you are easier on yourself after diet slip-ups, you have a better chance to reach your health goals.

Ice cream is not the best for your health, but if you happen to eat some, then enjoy it and then move on.
