Hormel announced at the end of May the acquisition of Applegate Farms for $775 million. Hormel who is the manufacturer of Spam is the polar opposite of Applegate. Applegate Farms has always worked to source its meats from grass-fed, non-GMO fed, no antibiotic sources. Hormel, on the other hand, is the essence of factory farming and processed foods. It is going to be interesting to see what happens. If we are lucky Applegates will have a good impact on Hormel!
